La laitière du Sahel is a Nigerian company that was created in April 2006. It has been specialized in the production and sale of dairy products especially yoghurt. His current site is located in Riyadh district of Niamey in Niger.

The company is headed by Madam Diori Maïmouna MALE. She holds an Agro-biochemist engineering degree. The latter is supported by a team of administrative staff and production workers. La laitière du Sahel holds now thirty employees but in the beginning, it started operations in late 2006 with 6 employees. 

The dairy sector in Niger is dominated by five industrial units. La laitière du Sahel may be classified among the least of these large production units but dairy products are well appreciated by customers.

Despite competition from other local units and the presence of imported dairy products,  la laitière du Sahel has validly successfully get its inclusion in the national market and even in the sub-regional one (Burkina Faso, Benin) because of the quality of its products. 

The main product produced by la laitière du Sahel since the start of its activities is the yogurt which is declined in several flavors: flavored yogurt sold in bottles and plastic bags.

The company also produces and distributes, to a lesser extent the "degue (a mixture of millet couscous and yoghurt) and intends to start in 2011, production of fresh pasteurized milk in high demand by customers. 

To meet the growing demand for dairy products, the company plans to immediately increase production by acquiring additional equipment and to make adjustments on the current site of production. It will also strengthen its marketing activities to expand its market share. 

Although not a leader in this sector, la laitière du Sahel is aware of the importance of aspects that may impact significantly on the competitiveness of its products vis-à-vis the competition: level of technology, evolution consumption habits of customers, production costs, brand awareness, delivery. The company is now aware that the control of all these aspects should result in the use of a modern management system, management and modernization of production tools.

La laitière du Sahel is selected to be accompanied by the restructuring program and upgrade the industry of the member states of UEMOA in partnership with UNIDO.
