Financing phase (investment)

Financial plan and search of investors

Description:

The financial plan is a document detailing the financial aspects of the investment project. It is based on forecasts at three, even five years and considers the following elements:

  • turnover and projected charges (costs);
  • foreseen investments.

The estimates of the financial plan are based on the data of the feasibility study, and allow calculating:

  • the anticipated profitability of the project or enterprise;
  • the financing needs.

It is thus an essential element of the file the entrepreneur will provide to the potential moneylenders.

Principle:

The decisions of the moneylenders are largely based on the financing plan presented by the entrepreneur.
Henceforth the entrepreneur will have to present a sufficiently accomplished sketch thereof even if he tries to get assistance for the realisation of the financing plan.
The support of the DFI's can be granted in two ways:

  • either directly, when the DFI intervenes in the costs of realisation of the financing plan or proposes the - partly remunerated - assistance of its experts (seldom);
  • or indirectly, when the DFI has accepted to participate in the capital of the enterprise and assists it for getting the rest of the financing of its project.

Search of investors

Description:

The search of investors and moneylenders is an essential step in the financing of a project. It includes several steps:

  • elaboration of a presentation file (business plan ) : that file will contain among others a feasibility study and a complete and detailed financial plan;
  • identification of the potential moneylenders;
  • presentation of the project to the interested investors;
  • negotiation and follow-up of the financing files.

Principle:

Except for the CDE, assistance for the search of investors is granted by the DFC's when they participate themselves in the financing of the project.
